Kidding Season Cancelled for the Obers

Unfortunately, the does we were going to breed this fall haven’t made weight.   They’re both about 15 pounds under.  It’s common with some goat breeds to take a year or more to get to breeding weight and Oberhasli is one of those breeds.

We are a little disappointed, but I’d much rather make sure they can survive the pregnancies.  Since we do need goat milk, I will be looking into purchasing an already bred Nigerian.  No one sells bred Obers without charging a fortune.  Not to mention finding a bred Ober in our area would be next to impossible.   Nigerians, however, are a saturated breed around here, so I shouldn’t have a problem with finding one.
