How Cold Is It?

“A picture is worth a thousand words.”  ~  Arthur Brisbane/Fred R. Barnard

The chicken waterer with the top removed. Yes that is frozen water.

After much thought – like 2 seconds – of raising my electricity bill even higher during winter (NO!), I decided manual labor will have to suffice in working around frozen water containers.   Researching alternatives took longer.

An extra goat bucket and chicken waterer now sit in my kitchen.   Since I have to check eggs every few hours to prevent them from freezing, it isn’t much of a jump to take out a new batch of warm water for the critters.  I’ll change it out with the frozen water, and bring the ice-cold or frozen water in to warm up.   Of course, this will be awful  if I need to go out in a Nor’easter, but you gotta do what you gotta do.
